Local News Alberta

On October 22, 2015 the Bengali community celebrated Durga Puja at the ACCA Centre (Asian Christian Association of Alberta) in Edmonton. The annual South Asian festival organized by the Alberta Bongo Society (ABS) is held in worship of Goddess Durga, also known as Durgotsava or Sharadotsav. The celebration refers to the six days observed by the Hindu community, named as Mahalaya, Shashthi, Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Nabami and Vijayadashami.

The Bangladesh Heritage Museum in cooperation with the Bangladesh PressClub Centre of Alberta (BPCA) is organizing an art exhibition by local artist Ishrat Jahan. The Edmonton Public Library branch at Abbottsfield - Penny Mckee has agreed to publicly display the paintings for three months, beginning at October 26, 2015 until January 25, 2016.

Between August 1, 2015 and Alberta's Civic Holiday on August 3, the William Hawrelak Park in Edmonton transformed into a rich display of arts, culture and ethnic heritage. During that time the Edmonton Heritage Festival, also known as the Servus Heritage Festival due to its title sponsor, took place.

On Thursday, August 6, 2015 the Mahinur Jahid Memorial Foundation (MJMF) has sponsored and organized a cricket match to celebrate the team sport. The event took place in Giovanni Caboto Park in Edmonton, Alberta, where 2 teams gave each other a suspense-packed fight for the Champions Cup. The players for the two teams represented each an organization, the team of BPCA (Bangladesh PressClub Centre of Alberta), and the team of MJMF (Mahinur Jahid Memorial Foundation).
