Edmonton, April 17, 2017 (ANV) - Bangladesh Community in Edmonton celebrates Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year-1424, with great enthusiasm and festivity.
Marking the day, two day-long colorful 'Baishakhi Mela' was organized by the Bangladesh Canada Association of Edmonton, where Bangladeshis living in Edmonton and its suburbs along with Canadian citizens participated. There were continuous cultural events since morning to evening. There was a live concert of Famous BD singer Ferdous Wahid at Bonnie Doon Community Hall.
The Baishakhi Mela premises were beautifully decorated with all the symbols of Bangla New Year celebrations.
Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta in Canada celebrates its Heritage Festival (Bengali New Year) in a colorful manner along with other organizations.
Bengali people in Calgary celebrate the day with traditional food, dress, and with Bengali culture.
The luncheon meeting takes place on April 4, commencing from noon- 2:00pm at the Edmonton Federal Building of Edmonton. It comprises meeting with ND Caucus MLA’s immediately followed by Introductions and member statements to be held at the Member’s Gallery of the Legislative Assembly.
In the luncheon meeting among others spoke Honourable Irfan Sabir, Minister, Delwar Jahid, President Bangladesh PressClub of Alberta, BHESA President Mashod BHuiyan, VP MJMF Bangladesh Sports Club Anamur Rahman, Vinay Dey, Tapas HOWLADER others.
Before the session, Mr. Irfan Sabir Minister of Community and Social Services held in honor of the leaders. Mr. Sabir in his opening speech, the minister said that Canada is the land of many cultures through the recognition of the Bengali New Year will open a new horizon. Today is a historic day which will be a landmark.
After the opening speech of the minister in this historical and cultural events abroad, the recognition of the Bengali New Year is the first substantial discussion on the efforts of the Press Center of Bangladesh president Delwar Jahid in Alberta.
Bengali New Year, the statement proposed to parliament of Alberta, Delwar Jahid in his speech today said, this the opportunity to raise these senior citizens behind the past contributions of immigrants with deep respect and gratitude, he recalls Mr. Siddique Hossain, Mrs. Shahnaz Hussain, Professor MA Mannan (former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor), Dr. NC Das, Mr. Nehal Uddin, Dr. Ali, everyone their contributions to Bangladesh Canada Association of Edmonton, Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta , Bangladesh Students’ Association of University of Alberta, Edmonton city MJMF Bangladesh Sports Club, Bangladesh Canada Association of Edmonton and Bangladesh Canada Association of Fort MacMary past and present executives, expressed gratitude and thanks for their work.
